The
homeowners asked us to enhance the driveup appeal of their home
by adding color and interest. They felt the existing landscape
provided by the builder did not match the caliber of the structure.
A few
of the design challenges included a drainage issue on the north
side of the property, screening of a neighbors garage, saving
and utilizing existing plant material, and homeowners that had
little time for or knowledge of landscape maintenance.
Our solution
included low growing flowering shrubs, blooming perennials that
return year after year, and evergreen shrubs with colorful foliage
and appealing textures. The spacing and placement of the plant
material allows the mature shrub to be the design size, so very
little pruning will be required. A mortared stone border seperates
the landscape from the lawn and prevents grass from entering
the beds.

This project began as a 1
year old builders landscape package. The homeowner was looking
for more color, greater visual interest, and ease of maintenance.
We created a three dimensional
design that softened the corners of the property and hardscape.
An Island bed was created to help screen a neighbors garage.
The trees supplied by the
builder were transplanted to the rear, and new, larger trees were
placed in better positions to frame the house and block unappealing
views.
A mortared stone
edge separates the landscape beds from the turf. The drainage
issue along the right side of the house is addressed using a river
rock filled swale.
Low maintenance landscape
roses and hardy perennials add color and texture to the landscape.
